Eyelash Growth Explained
Eyelash Growth - As we age, our eyelashes tend to lose some of their thickness and fullness, and even young women can have eyelashes that could use a little boost. It seems that all women want fuller and thicker lashes.
You may feel that every other week, there is a new mascara that promises to make your lashes thicker, longer, darker, etc. Although these types of mascaras can be a quick fix for sparse eyelashes, there have recently been many products that promote eyelash growth.
This means that eyelashes would not just last until you wash off your mascara, but they would actually grow and be longer and thicker.
While these products may sound like a miracle fix, some people wonder if the benefits and promise of longer lashes actually outweigh the possible side effects.
Longer Looking Lashes And How To Achieve Them
- There is some controversy concerning whether or not you can actually thicken your eyelashes by using eyelash growth products. However, many people agree that with the right products, and proper conditioning, it is very possible to grow longer lashes. Much like the hair on our heads, our eyelashes grow the best when they are strong and conditioned.
Think about what happens when your hair is dry and brittle. You have to apply deep conditioners and oil treatments in order to prevent breakage and promote growth. You also have to take extra care when styling your hair so you aren't constantly breaking it as soon as it grows.
The same goes for eyelash growth. Think about how hard we are on our eyelashes. We curl our lashes, apply mascara, and then at the end of the day, we have to remove the mascara. Make sure your eyelash curler isn't too old, so you won't be unknowingly weakening your precious lashes. When you remove your mascara, don't tug and pull your lashes, instead be gentle with them. There are wonderful eye makeup remover products on the market that afford you a gentle and conditioning way to remove mascara.
- When we want out hair to grow, one of the first things we do is take vitamins that promote growth. Well, did you know that these same vitamins can provide necessary nutrients for your eyelashes?
Remember that the only way to get your lashes to grow is to actually take the vitamins! You can't get longer and fuller lashes if the vitamins are sitting unopened on your bathroom counter. By developing a daily vitamin routine, you will start to see some great results, and as an added bonus, you will notice that your hair, skin and nails will all benefit from the extra vitamins and nutrients.
Another Way To Grow Lashes
- Some popular growth products didn't actually start out as eyelash growth serums. The main ingredients in some of these products are actually the same medicine that is used to treat people who have glaucoma.
However, during clinical trials, it was discovered that the glaucoma medication actually caused almost 80% of patients to notice that their eyelashes were thicker and longer. Of course, these results were noticed over about a four-month period, so this type of treatment will not give you overnight results.
Many people are skeptical about this treatment because of the fact that once you stop using these eyelash growth treatments, your eyelashes will go back to how they were before you started treating them.
Although this is an inconvenient result, there are more serious side effects to consider. Some of these popular medications can cause your eyelids to grow darker in color, as well give you itchy/red eyes. Not only can your eyelids change color, but there is a possibility that your iris pigmentation can change to dark brown. Maybe you're thinking, "I wouldn't mind having darker eyes for a few months," however, this iris color change is permanent and non-reversible.
Many people have used eyelash growth products and their only side effect was long, beautiful thicker lashes, so everyone's results really are different. Of course, if you don't want to risk the possible effects, you can always use lengthening mascaras or false eyelashes to achieve similar results.
- If you aren't sure if you want to chance the side effects of eyelash growth medications, you can treat your eyelashes with certain oils to promote growth. Make sure you don't apply too much oil because you don't want to harm your eyes. Since we only get one pair of eyes, it is important to really research what types of products you apply near your eyes. It is a good idea to talk to your doctor and decide if eyelash growth treatments are right for you. Don't rush into any decision because any medical related decision, even if it seems minor should be taken very seriously.
