I hear a lot about using face and eye primers. Can you tell me what their purpose is, and do I really need to do these extra steps?

The best analogy I can give you relates to painting a new wall. You always have to use a primer coat of paint to insure even coverage of the paint.

With regard to your eyes and face the same principle applies. Primers are fairly new on the market and their main goal is to prepare the skin for the next application. Primers do not penetrate into your skin. They create a protective base for longer-lasting wear. Your makeup will glide on thereby creating a smoother surface.
