Everything You Need to Know About Rosacea Makeup
Here some tips for choosing and applying your Rosacea makeup, to help to minimize the effects of rosacea.
What is Rosacea?
It is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that affects the skin and sometimes the eyes (known as ocular rosacea).
It is characterized by redness, swelling, bumps, pimples, and can also affect scalp, neck, ears, chest and back. It generally affects people with fair skin.
There are numerous common triggers that aggravate Rosacea, and even if you avoid all the triggers you are still left with the problem of covering up the redness.
Coping With Rosacea
Since there is no cure for Rosacea, I wish I could wave my wand and make your redness go away.
I do have some recommendations for you:
Control your triggers. Everyone is different. For some it's weather and stress, for others it might be certain foods, etc.
Product and Treatments for your Skin
MetroGel is a topical treatment that works to reduce inflammatory lesions associated with Rosacea.
Don't suffer in silence. Contact your dermatologist and have him prescribe what is best for you.
Choosing Rosacea Makeup
Use fragrance-free lotions and cosmetics.
One of the best ways to protect your skin is to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day. Look for sunscreens with zinc oxide in the active ingredients and avoid the ones with the chemical additives. Do not rely only on the SPF#. This number only indicates how long you can stay exposed before having to reapply. It does not tell you what the ingredients are. For you it is all about ingredients.
Your skin is sensitive, so the cleansing products you use should be as chemical free as possible. There are products on the market that are paraben free meaning chemical free. Unfortunately each Rosacea case is different and what works for one may not work for someone else. Your goal is to find products that will not irritate your sensitive skin.
Try using a
mineral powder
but not just any brand. You need to read labels and look for the ones without mica and bismuth oxychloride in it. Neither of these ingredients is good for your skin.
IMPORTANT - Minerals are the way to go but not all mineral powders are pure and chemical free. Mineral powders will do a great job of covering up your redness. They are not perfect but given the fact that you are not covering up with a heavy cream foundation they give your skin a chance to breathe. The coverage is quite good and healthy for your skin.
